Sitters

Our nation's medical community, while striving daily to attain answers and more knowledge, is still at a loss concerning many aspects of Alzheimer's disease.  Unfortunately,  some people will progress more rapidly through the mild, moderate and severe stages of the disease and there is no tool that will enable a caregiver to predict the decline their loved one will experience. 

Please excuse me for going off of our month long topic of Reminiscence this week, but I am too excited not to blog about an important day for Sitters Etc.  On January 31, 2010, Sitters Etc. celebrated its 8th birthday!   Many of you will not be able to completely comprehend how important this day is for Beau and me.  But please indulge me as I attempt to explain.

Many elderly persons rely entirely on their children, family members or other trusted individuals to help them. This dependence upon caregivers or family members makes an older person more vulnerable to abuse and financial exploitation. Legal arrangements and protective actions by family may be necessary to shield loved ones from making bad decisions or from being taken advantage of.
